John McGann, PEDirector of Civil Engineering
It’s been said that if you stand John McGann at any point on or around the University of Arizona campus, he can tell you exactly what’s under your feet. Few civil engineers have a greater knowledge of utility master planning and construction than John, largely because of his 30-plus years of designing campus underground utility distribution systems. He has guided many multi-decade phased improvement projects and is recognized as the go-to expert throughout Arizona and New Mexico. In addition to higher education, John and his team also work on projects for local municipalities, healthcare, and industrial clients to provide site design for challenging situations. His quick-thinking ability to solve problems in the field makes him a valuable resource. He excels at addressing the complexities of everything from floodplains and difficult soils to government permitting and review. John has also built strong and enduring relationships with contractors and utility companies to promote collaboration and project success.
“Campus growth and the construction of innovative and collaborative buildings only work if the infrastructure is present to support them. Proper utility infrastructure is the campus spine that makes everything else possible.”
