Illuminated sports fields are a centerpiece of many parks, but the lighting and electrical systems must be properly designed, built, and maintained to remain safe and usable.  Ted Moeller, Director of Electrical Engineering at GLHN, partnered with the City of Tucson to improve electrical safety at aging parks across the community.  Ted recommends the following best practices to maintain park electrical systems.

  • Operate circuit breakers every three years
  • Install metal cages around ground-mounted transformers
  • Replace burned-out sports field lights
  • Modify sprinkler patterns so electrical equipment isn’t water
  • Remove abandoned wiring
