Senior Electrical Engineer

Summary:
This is a senior level engineering position within the Electrical Department. The Senior Electrical Engineer works in close coordination with other discipline registrants, project managers, the department manager, and clients to ensure quality production of construction documents (drawings and specifications) in compliance with the scope, budget, and project schedule to the satisfaction of GLHN clients. Provides consulting services, including reports of findings, problem analyses, engineering analyses, and resulting design work as necessary; and signs and seals documents upon final review. Provides mentoring to junior staff and brings a high level of QA/QC to the team. Engages in business development activities.
Responsibilities:
- Prepares and enforces project budgets.
- Maintains project schedules and timely completion of projects, or portions of projects, under this engineer’s control.
- Serves as primary project technical spokesperson and as a designated client contact; coordinates regular plan reviews.
- Scopes and develops marketing strategies for proposed projects.
- Prepares design computations, load, fault current, illumination, voltage regulation and protection device coordination studies.
- Researches code and regulatory agency issues and coordinates with code/agency officials in resolving project questions/issues.
- Develops probable construction cost opinions for assigned projects within the department.
- Attends client meetings.
- Analyzes reports, drawings, blueprints, and test results to plan and design projects.
- Researches design options and prepares findings and recommendations.
- Performs routine delegated contract administration functions.
- Organizes and maintains project files.
- Instructs designers to convert designs to working drawings.
- Performs field inspections, investigations, and site observations on construction sites; responds to construction issues raised by contractors.
- Reviews shop drawings and contractor submittals.
- Uses computer programs and spreadsheets for engineering analysis, reports, and presentations.
- Uses AutoCAD and Revit software programs to prepare engineering and design documents.
- Maintains company production and design standards for drawings and designs.
- Provides information to Department Manager and/or Project Manager, if applicable, on project workloads and changes in project scope or additional services.
- Prepares reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.
- Effectively presents information and responds to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.
Minimum Requirements:
- Registered Professional Engineer in Arizona.
- BS/EE related degree from an accredited four-year college or university.
- 12 or more years experience working in the AEC industry with vast knowledge of electrical engineering.
- Up to date on design specialty through review of periodicals and continuing education.
- Working knowledge of discipline-specific modeling software (AutoCAD, Revit, and Navisworks).
- Proficient in the use of MS products.
- Strong communication, writing, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with limited supervision while adhering to project deadlines.
- Experience with lighting software (Visual and/or AGI32.)
- Experience in indoor and outdoor lighting design.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in business development and client interfacing such as initiating contact with existing and potential clients, identifying client needs, and selling appropriate design services.
- Desire and aptitude to grow clientele base.
- Strong interview and presentation skills.
- Working medium voltage design experience.
- High-level knowledge of code compliance.
