MECHANICAL ENGINEER
Mechanical Engineering Department
This is a technical position requiring current registration in the State of Arizona as a Professional
Mechanical Engineer.
Typical Duties:
- Plans, organizes, and checks work, gives instructions and assistance, and makes technical decisions in connection with the supervision of the work of a group of designers and drafting technicians engaged in making complete designs, construction drawings, and specifications of major mechanical installations, such as heating and air-conditioning, ventilation, refrigeration, fire protection, plumbing, sewage collection systems, water supply and water purification systems, drainage systems, and steam generating plants.
- Writes technical specifications
- Prepares cost estimates of mechanical systems
- Conducts detailed inspections of construction operations in the field
- Conducts independent surveys covering installation, repair, and recommended improvements to mechanical systems
- Prepares correspondence reports.
- Assume primary responsibility for organizing and executing work plans for projects assigned by Departmental Manager.
- Review project budget and schedule objectives with Departmental Manager.
- Assist Accounting Department in input of project budget into software.
- Assess the impact of changes in project scope, prepare change order requests and negotiate change order amounts with client.
- Assume accountability in managing projects to meet budget and schedule
- Assume primary responsibility for performing technical studies and assessments as assigned by Department Manager.
- Travel to sites as necessary to perform field work, meet with clients or present information. Overnight travel out of Tucson is required.
- Assure that all aspects of work prepared has been adequately coordinated with work of other in-house disciplines, outside architects and/or sub consultants.
- Coordinate construction administration activities with GLHN Department Managers and sub consultants.
- Participate in departmental efforts to educate and mentor junior engineers, designers and drafters.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Registered Professional Engineer
- BS/ME related discipline from an accredited four-year college or university
- 9 or more years’ experience, working in the AEC Industry with vast knowledge of Mechanical
- Keep current on the “State of the Art”; in design specialty through review of periodicals and continuing education
- Working knowledge of discipline-specific modeling software (AutoCAD, Revit, and Navisworks)
- Proficient in the use of MS products
- Strong communication, writing, and organizational skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with limited supervision while adhering to project deadlines
- High-level knowledge of Code compliance
