Electrical Engineering Designer III

Summary:
The Engineering Designer III is responsible for producing construction documents (drawings and specifications) in compliance with the scope, budget, and project schedule; provide consulting services, including reports of findings, engineering analyses, and resulting design work as necessary for review; and to assist the Project Manager and PE in planning and designing projects including analysis and calculations. The Senior Electrical Designer may also lead the planning and design of select projects and provide support and mentorship to junior designers and drafters.
Responsibilities:
- Maintains project schedules and timely completion of projects, or portions of projects.
- Assists in the preparation of presentations, participates in client contacts; participates in regular plan reviews.
- Assists in preparing scopes and fees for proposed projects.
- Prepares design computations, load, fault current, illumination, voltage regulation, and protection device coordination studies.
- Researches code and regulatory agency issues and coordinates with code/agency officials in resolving project questions/issues.
- Assists in the development of the probable construction cost opinions for assigned projects within the department.
- Attends client meetings and on-site walkthroughs.
- Performs analysis of drawings and test results to plan and design projects.
- Researches design options and prepares findings and recommendations.
- May direct and supervise the activities of CADD technicians and junior designers.
- Organizes and maintains project files.
- May prepare or modify portions of reports, specifications, plans, construction schedules, environmental impact studies, and designs for the project.
- Reviews shop drawing and contractor submittals.
- Assures that drawings and designs are in accordance with company and/or agency production and design standards.
- Keeps Department Manager and/or Project Manager informed of workload and any changes in project scope or additional services.
- Conducts feasibility studies and Facility Condition Assessments (FCA).
Minimum Requirements:
- Minimum 12 years previous design experience; most of which are in the AEC industry.
- Technical or Associate Degree from an accredited technical institution or college in applicable engineering design areas or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Keeps up to date in design specialty through review of periodicals and continuing education.
- Working knowledge of discipline-specific modeling software (Autocad LT, Autocad, Revit, and Navisworks).
- Proficient in the use of MS products.
- Strong communication, writing, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with limited supervision while adhering to project deadlines.
- Experience with lighting software (Visual and/or AGI32).
- Experience in indoor and outdoor lighting design.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in business development and client interfacing such as initiating contact with existing and potential clients, identifying client needs, and selling appropriate design services to meet those needs.
- Desire and aptitude to grow clientele base.
- Strong interview and presentation skills.
- Working medium voltage design experience.
