The University of Arizona’s Environment and Natural Resources 2 (ENR2) building continues to win awards! The Tucson Chapter of ASHRAE recently presented Henry Johnstone and GLHN Architects & Engineers, Inc. with a Technology Award for New Educational Facilities.  This award recognizes ASHRAE members who design and/or conceive innovative technological concepts that are proven through actual operating data.  ENR2 uses a range of energy efficient technologies such as:

  • Dedicated outside air units serving chilled beam and underfloor displacement
  • Single duct VAV with reheat
  • Occupancy control of outside air ventilation and room temperature setpoint
  • Ventilation relief under balcony overhangs with large ceiling fans

To ensure these innovations actually work, the team implemented Whole Building Commissioning and an energy Measurement and Verification program. Originally intended to run through the first two full years of operation, both are still in operation, promoting increased efficiencies.
