ENR Southwest has announced its 2020 Best Project Winners and has awarded Banner University Medical Center Tucson Best Health Care Project! The new 9-story clinical tower for the region’s only academic medical center replaces an aging portion of the existing hospital, updating and expanding operating rooms and elevating the patient experience with all-private patient rooms. The tower includes 248 private inpatient beds and 24 operating rooms as well as a new main entrance. Design involved close collaboration between Shepley Bulfinch as Design Architect and GLHN as Architect/Engineer of Record. The project utilized a Big Room delivery method where the design team, contractor, subcontractors and owner were collocated throughout the design and construction process. Construction was provided through a joint venture of Sundt and DPR.
