GLHN was thrilled to be on-hand for the grand opening of the University of Arizona College of Veterinary Medicine in Oro Valley. The school hosted an open house and ribbon cutting on Wednesday, November 13th. Guests were invited to tour the building. While some classrooms have specific uses, all are designed to be flexible and allow for multiple classes and curriculum changes as necessary. There are no lecture halls. Various wings of the building provides space for practicing clinical skills, anatomy and microscopy. The facility also includes learning rooms, a wellness center and a student lounge.
GLHN worked closely with the College to renovate the former Bio 5 research laboratory facility into a collaborative learning environment. Graduates of the program will help alleviate the shortage of veterinarians in Arizona, particularly for large animals. With a tight budget and a desire to limit waste, GLHN was able to reuse 80 percent of the existing casework. GLHN’s lab renovation team also documented the existing supply and exhaust air in the facility, salvaging as much as possible and reconfiguring the system’s main air handlers and chiller to be appropriate for the new uses.
