Pima Community College Dental Clinic
The college was awarded a Title V Grant to improve and expand the capacity of three fully accredited dental studies programs: Dental Hygiene Education, Dental Assistant Education, and Dental Laboratory Technology. Improvements were required to increase student capacity and update technologies. The existing space of 6,350 SF was remodeled and expanded into two adjoining classrooms for a total of 7,250 SF. To conform to the grant requirements, work was to be accomplished in four phases over four years during summer break sessions of approximately four months while classes were not in session. The new laboratory and clinic include 23 updated or new operatories, 21 CAD/CAM workstations for dental laboratory technology, x-ray and darkrooms, a sterilization room, classrooms for small group and individual instruction, 2 locker rooms, and support areas. GLHN provided pre-design, design, permit/bidding, construction administration and close-out services for all phases of the project.
Specific tasks included mechanical engineering; electrical engineering for power, lighting and emergency lighting; plumbing; fire protection and fireproofing; cost estimating; IT and communications design and coordination; building commissioning; inspections; and equipment coordination.
