John Jolly Appointed to Outdoor Lighting Code Committee

We are happy to announce that John Jolly has been appointed to the Outdoor Lighting Code Committee by the City of Tucson Mayor and Council. John’s role will include addressing Code concerns and attending quarterly meetings.

The purpose of the code is to preserve the relationship of the residents of the City of Tucson and Pima County to their unique desert environment through protection of access to the dark night sky.  Intended outcomes include continuing support of astronomical activity and minimizing wasted energy, while not compromising the safety, security, and well being of those engaged in outdoor night time activities.  “I will be taking over the committee member position previously held by Joyce Kelly, also a GLHN employee. My goal is to provide a balanced perspective of quality outdoor lighting from a lighting specialist’s point of view.”

John has been with GLHN since 2002 and is Chief Electrical Designer. John is a LEED Accredited Professional and is Lighting Certified by the NCQLP.  He designed building and site lighting systems at Northern Arizona University where he created a unique, Dark Sky compliant exterior lighting fixture affectionately known as “the Golly” that blended amber light with white light.

Did you know? A lumen is a unit of luminous flux; used to measure the amount of light emitted by lamps.
