GLHN President and Director of Mechanical Engineering, Henry Johnstone, PE, presented “The Water-Energy (and Air-Conditioning) Nexus” at several recent events.  The presentation traces the sources of water and energy to the Tucson/Southern Arizona Region and the relationship between water, electric energy, and air conditioning…issues critical to our life in the desert.  It responds to the current concern over the drought affecting a large portion of the United States and is timely because of recent media attention focused on the potential scarcity of Colorado River water.

In exploring the Energy-Water (and Air Conditioning) Nexus, the firm is expanding its expertise from building sustainability to regional environmental issues and its knowledge of the critical interface between them.

Events at which the presentation was given include the following:

ASHRAE Tucson Chapter
Energy Efficiency Workshop, hosted by City of Tucson and Tucson Electric Power (TEP)
Rocky Mountain Association (RMA) Webinar
University of Arizona Department of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering (AME)
Best Practices Symposium hosted by Pima Community College in Tucson

Engineering intern Sean Moss, of Basis Tucson, played an integral part in the creation of the presentation, working in collaboration with Henry Johnstone, engineering staff, and the firms marketing and graphics department.
