On August 17, 2017 GLHN was awarded an Appreciation Certificate from Mike Ritz of the Tucson Festival of Books to celebrate many years of involvement with the festival. Each year since 2007, GLHN has supplied a team of volunteers to clean up at the end of the event. This includes taking down signs, picking up trash and recycling, and folding chairs and tables. Mary Martin has been part of the crew since year one and helps organize the team. “The festival is amazing, and the treasures are found in the venues. Plan to volunteer, and then take in the venues! You won’t be disappointed.” In addition to providing a clean-up crew, GLHN also staffs the Mechanical Advantage booth in the Science City area, where children have a hands-on opportunity to learn about levers and fulcrums through the use of a giant yellow teeter totter.
The Tucson Festival of Books brings together authors, publishers and the reading public in a family-friendly community event. Net proceeds of the festival are used to promote literacy in Southern Arizona. For more information or to volunteer, visit http://tucsonfestivalofbooks.org/
