APPA, the International Association for Facilities Professionals, has recognized the need to bring its educational sessions, training and networking opportunities to the local level. Chris Kopach, APPA President, is spearheading the formation of a new Arizona branch. “One of my goals as APPA President is harnessing and transferring the knowledge of our senior leaders. Facilities as a whole will be experiencing a large number of retirements over the next 10 years. As part of this effort, we are establishing an Arizona State Chapter of APPA (AZ APPA), as a means of sharing best practices, networking with fellow facilities professionals and succession planning”. Holding events at a local level will conserve budgets and allow greater participation, particularly from the community college and K-12 sectors.
A series of three mixers will be held to share information and promote participation. The first event, sponsored in part by GLHN, was held at the Hotel Congress on April 25th. Attendees represented University of Arizona, Arizona State University, Northern Arizona University, Pima College and the Nogales and Amphitheater School Districts. Future events will be held in Tempe and Flagstaff over the summer.
